Lionel Walter

Lionel Walter was born in 1981 in Morges (VD). At a very young age, he begins playing the cornet, then the trumpet, and grows up in the Swiss brass band scene. He is a member of renowned bands such as the «Ensemble de Cuivres Mélodia», where he holds the principal cornet chair for 8 years, or the «Nationale Jugend Brass Band». He is also a multiple Swiss Solo Champion.

Later, he’s accepted into the Geneva University of Music and studies with Gérard Métrailler. In 2007, he graduates with a master of music in orchestral performance with honours, crowned by the Raymond Weil prize. Lionel Walter has also studied abroad, notably in Pittsburgh (USA) with Anthony Pasquarelli and Roger Sherman and at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Konradin Groth. He holds scholarships of the International Trumpet Guild and of the Dénéréaz Foundation.

Currently, Lionel Walter performs as an extra-player with the major symphonic orchestras of Western Switzerland and is an active freelance musician. He has joined GENEVA BRASS in 2006.
